Article Title: Shower Curtain Personality Test
Publication Date: February 19, 2026
Author: Jacqueline Nochisaki
Realtor.com explored the connection between shower curtain choices and personality, asking designers to decode what different styles might reveal about the people who choose them. The article celebrates the idea that even small design decisions can reflect our authentic selves.
Why Shower Curtains Matter More Than You Think
When Realtor.com asked about shower curtains and personality, here’s the perspective I shared:
We sometimes dismiss certain rooms in our home as mostly just functional—like bathrooms—and we fail to realize that they’re where we start and end our days. So that fun/interesting/unique shower curtain is one of the first things you see each morning. Why wouldn’t you want it to spark a little joy and feel like you?
This isn’t about overthinking a $30 purchase. It’s about recognizing that the cumulative effect of choosing things you genuinely love (versus things you think you’re “supposed” to have) creates homes that feel authentically yours.
What Your Shower Curtain Choice Reveals
I think looking at shower curtains through the lens of what they might reveal about us is honestly too fun! Here’s what different choices might say:
Bold Botanical Prints
What it says: Someone who chooses a bold botanical print is probably comfortable taking up space and bringing life into a room. They’re not afraid of color or pattern, and they likely see their bathroom as a space for energy and vitality, not just a utilitarian box.
Their home probably: Features other bold patterns, has abundant plants, includes collected art and textiles. They’re confident mixers who aren’t afraid to layer.
Clear or Minimal Curtains
What it says: That person likely values openness and simplicity—they’re not hiding anything, literally or figuratively! They want their beautiful tile work to shine, or they prioritize the feeling of spaciousness over pattern.
Their home probably: Leans minimal with high-quality basics, features clean lines and uncluttered surfaces, has a carefully curated color palette. They edit ruthlessly and value breathing room.
Quirky Vintage Finds
What it says: The person with the quirky vintage find? They’re telling you they don’t take design rules too seriously, and their home is probably full of great stories! They value authenticity and character over perfection.
Their home probably: Mixes eras freely, includes thrifted treasures alongside investment pieces, tells stories through collected objects. They’re confident in their own taste regardless of trends.
Classic White or Neutral
What it says: This person values timelessness and versatility. They’re building a backdrop that works with changing tastes and seasons. They might be renters, or they might just prefer to express personality through changeable elements like towels and accessories.
Their home probably: Features neutral foundations with pops of personality through art, textiles, and accessories. They’re strategic about where they invest and where they keep things flexible.
Geometric or Modern Patterns
What it says: Someone drawn to geometric patterns appreciates structure, visual interest, and contemporary design. They like clean lines but want more personality than solid colors offer.
Their home probably: Balances modern and comfortable, includes statement lighting and sculptural furniture, values both aesthetics and function. They’re thoughtful curators.
Why This Approach Matters
Your home should feel like a deep exhale the moment you walk in. That only happens when you surround yourself with things that actually resonate with you—not what a trend report or influencer told you to buy. Even small choices, like a shower curtain, add up to create that feeling of “this is mine.”
At The Intentional Design Studio, we believe design should be both intentional and joyful. You can think deeply about how your home supports your wellbeing while also having fun with a quirky vintage shower curtain. These aren’t opposing forces—they’re both part of creating spaces that feel authentically, unapologetically yours.
The best design isn’t about following rules or achieving some idealized aesthetic. It’s about creating environments where you can be fully yourself. And sometimes that starts with a shower curtain that makes you smile every morning.
We’re so grateful to Realtor.com for the opportunity to explore this playful side of design!
